Johan Verreth
Johan Verreth is Professor and Head of the Chairgroup Aquaculture and Fisheries and former director of the Graduate School Wageningen Institute of Animal Sciences (WIAS) at Wageningen University, The Netherlands. Johan has over 30yrs of experience in academic research and training, including work in Latin America, Asia and Africa. He directed numerous international collaborative research programs geared to sustainable intensification of aquaculture and to sustainable management of natural fish resources. His main expertise is in the area of fish nutrition and husbandry systems. Johan was co-founder of the Dutch Aquaculture Society and president of the European Aquaculture Society and served for 5years on the Scientific Advisory Board of INRA (France). Currently he is president of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Faculty Fish Culture and Protection of Waters at the South Bohemian University, member of the advisory council EFMZV of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and member of the executive committee of the H2020 project EURASTIP, that intends to develop shared multi-stakeholder platforms between Europe and Asian countries to foster sustainable seafood production and trade. Johan (co-)authored more than 190 peer reviewed publications and a number of books and book chapters.
Ken Giller
Ken Giller, PhD, is an outstanding expert in the field of Plant Production Systems. He leads a group of scientists with profound experience in farming systems analysis to explore future scenarios for land use with a focus on food production at Wageningen University. Ken research has focused on smallholder farming systems in tropical regions with special attention for sub-Saharan Africa, and particularly on problems of soil fertility, the role of nitrogen fixation in tropical legumes, and the temporal and spatial dynamics of resources use within crop/livestock farming systems have this interest. He leads a number of large initiatives such as N2Africa (Putting Nitrogen Fixation to Work for Smallholder Farmers in Africa), NUANCES (Nutrient Use in Animal and Cropping Systems: Efficiencies and Scales) and Competing Claims on Natural Resources.
