Bringing the SDGs to business schools

Last month, SDG Academy Education Manager Meredith Storey traveled to Milan, Italy, to attend the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) Conference for Deans and Directors General, hosted by SDA Bocconi School of Management. EFMD is Europe’s largest network association in the field of management development, and is a leading international accreditor of business education programs.

The theme for the 2020 Conference was “Managing Impact.” With a colorful exhibit that showcased our courses and programs, the SDG Academy was well-positioned to offer advice and resources for advancing management education for social impact.

The SDGs were an important talking point throughout the Conference. During his opening address, CarringtonCrisp UK’s Co-founder Andrew Crisp urged attendees to use the Agenda 2030 framework to create a better world for business schools, universities, and the future generation of learners.

The use of sustainability rankings in the business school sector was also a key point of discussion. In a plenary on the subject, representatives from the corporate sector, management schools, and school ranking systems debated the utility of current sustainability rankings, and discussed alternative metrics for understanding institutions’ commitment to sustainability.

In November 2019, the SDG Academy officially partnered with EFMD to support the advancement of sustainable development in business education. We look forward to furthering our collaboration with EFMD in 2020!
