Veena is a sociohydrologist and the Founder and Executive Director of WELL Labs, with a mission to transform water systems at scale across India through research, partnerships and collective action. An award-winning researcher, Veena received the 2023 International Water Association’s Water and Development Award for Research, the 2015 Jim Dooge Award for best paper in Hydrology and Earth System Science, and the 2012 Water Resources Research Editor’s Choice Award from the American Geophysical Union. She chairs the Strategic Advisory Group for the Integrated Monitoring Initiative for UN SDG6 and serves on the board of the International Water Management Institute. Veena was the Prins Claus Chair at Utrecht University in the Netherlands from 2018 to 2020. She holds a PhD from Stanford University’s Emmet Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources, and a masters in Energy and Environmental Studies from Boston University. She also has a B‐Tech in Engineering Physics from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
