Africa Energy Transition Advisor, Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI)
Mr. Silas Olan’g is the Africa Energy Transition Advisor at the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI). Prior to the current role, Silas served as Africa Co-Director at NRGI. Mr. Olang is an economist, development practitioner, and academician for over 30 years. For the past 15 years, Mr. Olang has focused and built solid expertise on natural resource governance. He is extensively engaging with national and regional extractive industries governance initiatives such as Mining Vision (AMV), Africa Green Minerals Strategy (AGMS), EITI, and PWYP Africa. He has participated in high-level technical consultations on natural resource governance at the continental and global level, serving in various Board of Directors, including the NRGI Tanzania, the Association of Tanzania Oil and Gas Service Providers, the Policy Analysis and Development Organization (PADO), and Hakimadini. He also served as technical advisor for the Interfaith Committee of Economic Justice. He held numerous management positions and led various initiatives such as policy advocacy and knowledge management (Oxfam), Advisor – Financial services at the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), and Zonal Program Officer with the European Development Fund (EDF) in Tanzania. He also lectured economics at Mzumbe University and headed the planning departments in various local government authorities in Tanzania.
Mr. Olan’g holds a Master’s degree in economics from University of Bradford in the UK and a Bachelor’s degree in Economic Policy and Planning – Mzumbe University in Tanzania.
