Maribel Ortiz joined the International Social Security Association (ISSA) in its Manila Office as the ISSA Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific before moving to the ISSA Headquarters in Geneva. She led the development of the ISSA Guidelines on Good Governance in 2010, which blazed the trail for the elaboration of more ISSA Guidelines in key areas of social security administration, thus defining a niche for the ISSA as an international body that offers concise and practical knowledge on international best practice in the management of social security programmes.
She developed the prototype models for the ISSA Workshops and the ISSA Diploma Programme of the ISSA Centre for Excellence, to offer hands-on support to member organizations that use the ISSA Guidelines to benchmark their practices in social security administration. Currently, Maribel is leading an ISSA study on the role of social security in inclusion and social cohesion; an ISSA project on behavioural insights; and the development of a new set of ISSA Guidelines on human resource management in social security administration.
Maribel has a PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
