Dr. Ana Elizabeth Bastida (lawyer; LL.M.; Ph.D.) is the author of the book The Law and Governance of Mining and Minerals: A Global Perspective (Oxford: Hart Publishing, 2020). Her research engages with the role of minerals in the transformation of energy systems and with the disciplinary, regulatory, and operational shifts that must underpin these for sustainable and just futures. She has long combined academic research on innovations in resources law and institutional design with strong engagement in technical reform and knowledge-exchange programs and various epistemic communities. She is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) at CEPMLP, Energy, Environment and Society Division, University of Dundee.
She currently seats as member of the Technical Advisory Board of the tax base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS) in mining program hosted by the IGF in partnership with ATAF, CIAT, and the OECD; of the Expert Anti-Corruption Group on Critical Minerals convened by the NRGI, OECD Center for Responsible Business Conduct, and EITI; and of the International Reference Group of The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences’ (IVA) project Roadmap for Metals and Minerals. She is Vice-Chair of the International Bar Association’s Mining Law Committee (2023–2024) and a founding member and incoming Chair of Red Latinoamericana de Derecho Minero.
