Teresa is a Full Professor at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She earned her degree in educational sciences from the Universidad del Cauca and holds a master’s degree and a PhD in agricultural sciences, specializing in genetics and plant breeding. With 34 years of experience, she has trained numerous undergraduate and graduate students and authored a significant body of scientific publications. Teresa has demonstrated strong leadership in research teams and in scaling high-impact results. She received the David Hopper International Prize for Leadership in Research for Development (2020) from Canada’s International Development Research Centre. The Universidad Nacional de Colombia has also honored her with the University Merit Medal (2021), Academic Excellence (2014), Meritorious Research (2017, 2022), and Exceptional Teaching (2002). She serves as Topic Editor of Plant Breeding and is currently the Director of Research and Extension at the Bogotá campus.
