Josée Ntabahungu

Josée began her career as a national television journalist and helped found a women’s journalist association in Burundi, promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality. She joined CARE International in Burundi 20 years ago, holding key roles in advocacy, communications, and gender programming. She later served as Gender Programming Team Leader, Deputy Country Director for Programmes, and ultimately Country Director. Josée holds degrees in social science and history and has completed multiple trainings in women’s rights and leadership. An alumna of CARE’s Catalyst Leadership Program and the African Women Leadership Program, she is a committed gender expert who partners closely with women-led organizations. She also leads the Gender Equality Pillar for CARE International in East and Central Africa.
