James Milner is a Professor of Political Science at Carleton University and Project Director of LERRN: The Local Engagement Refugee Research Network — a multi-year SSHRC-funded partnership advancing refugee research and policy globally. He is also Director of Carleton’s Migration and Diaspora Studies program, Co-Chair of the Global Academic Interdisciplinary Network, and Canada’s first De Mello Chair. A researcher, practitioner, and policy advisor on global refugee issues, James has worked as a consultant for UNHCR and conducted field research across Africa and Asia. He is author and co-author of several books, including Refugees, the State and the Politics of Asylum in Africa (2009), UNHCR: The Politics and Practice of Refugee Protection (2012), and co-editor of Refugees’ Roles in Resolving Displacement and Building Peace (2019) and Protracted Refugee Situations (2008).
